The Power of BCAA

Posted Jun 16 2014 5:00pm

BCAA Known as the building blocks of muscle mass, Branched-Chain Amino Acids have been helping people for years. Popular known as BCAA, this top-selling sports nutrition product is commonly used to build muscle, burn fat, and enhance athletic performance.

If you are not familiar with BCAA, these supplements can improve endurance and strength training results and it has the ability to prevent muscle loss at high altitudes and prolong endurance performance in the heat, a perfect product for marathon or triathlon runners. Leucine, Isoleucine, and Valine are three essential amino acids which play an important role in protein synthesis. These three amino acids are considered essential because the human body does not produce any of them and human beings cannot survive unless these amino acids are present in the diet.

Recent studies have shown that dieting groups supplementing with BCAAs, such as leucine, can increase muscle retention and maximize fat loss much more effectively than non-supplemented groups. Very popular in the bodybuilding and fitness community, BCAA supplementation may be useful for gaining mass and maintaining muscle mass even while on a calorie-deficit diet. BCAAs not only increase the rate of protein synthesis, but they also increase the cell’s capacity for protein synthesis.

Additionally, BCAAs might also help improve workout intensity as it competes with the amino acid tryptophan for entry into the brain, where Tryptophan can be converted to the neurotransmitter serotonin. During exercise, serotonin levels rise and can increase fatigue. BCAA supplementation reduces the amount of tryptophan that enters the brain, and therefore reduces the amount of serotonin produced.
