Keep an Eye on Healthy Vision.

Eye Recent studies have proved that taking vitamins and antioxidants supplements may help you preventing macular degeneration, a problem predominantly found in elderly adults causing loss of central vision.

Most people suffering from macular degeneration have problems reading, seeing details, keeping focus and recognizing faces. This issue is the leading cause of central vision loss, also called blindness, in the United States for people age fifty and older. Younger people can also suffer from macular degeneration in some rare cases.

So, what is available? What can be taken to promote healthy eyes? Start out with vitamins. Vitamins A, C and E can prevent macular degeneration . Yes, carrots (remember it?) are great for your eyes because they offer plenty of carotenoids. Minerals may help too, such as zinc and selenium, the most important ones for maintaining good vision.

Several herbal supplements may keep your eyes in good shape. Lutein is the most used one, a great antioxidant found in many green leafy vegetables and also taken as a supplement (10mg of lutein should be enough). Ginkgo Biloba can also help for early stages of macular degeneration, by taking 150mg a day.

Finally, make sure to wear sun glasses, good ones that can block ultraviolet rays, preventing eye damage.

Look for supplements containing a combination of vitamins, minerals and herbs. Those products are the most efficient for eye support, as we normally need a little bit of everything to keep our eyes in good shape.
