I hope if the FDA regulates supplements we don't end with as many deaths from them as we do every year from the "safe" drugs they approve.
And why are you so against supplements? I look at it like this, I take a whole food multi everyday because it has helped me fill the gaps in diet. But I do not think the people who don't supplement their diet are wrong.

What am I referring to? The edict from the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) that was issued a couple of days ago to companies that manufacture dietary supplements. Beginning August 24th, all of the ingredients used in their products need to be tested for purity. Smaller firms will have 3 years to phase into compliance, while the larger ones have until June.
On the plus side, this action is intended to keep impure or contaminating substances out of herbal and dietary supplements. A step in the right direction.
On the downside, this action does not go nearly far enough. There is nothing addressed about the efficiency, potency or safety of supplements. Unlike foods or drugs, manufacturers do not have to prove their products are safe prior to being sold, thus there are many supplements sold that are potentially harmful. Additionally, claims about the product's effectiveness do not need to be proven.
Unsuspecting consumers buy these supplements, believing all the advertising claims about them.
Remember what happened with Cortislim?
Its time the FDA regulated the whole dietary supplement industry.
