...then you should not need vitamins. My mother was a nurse and never gave us vitamins. She focused on feeding us a well-balanced diet. I certainly don't take them consistently as an adult - but I might use a specialized vitamin for certain issues, i.e., potassium and magnesium for heart flutter.
But, not everyday. What works for some might not work for others. I am aware that our soils have been depleted of nutritional value over the centuries--particularly America. That is why I occasionally take vitamins and minerals. There are also environmental factors like toxins and chemicals in the soil, water and air. Not to mention stress burns B vitamins. Nutrition is a valid therapy. I use it as needed. In other countries the fruit and vegetables are much better nutritionally and even taste so -- Australia comes to mind.
I want to start taking some supplements as I have heard it is good especially if u r over 30. My problem is I constipate if I take them, any suggestions?
i mean, i do take VITAMIN C when i'm sick but that's prolly it. and airborne on the verge of illness.
My mother constantly tells me to take them, that they will keep me from feeling tired, getting sick very often, etc. I don't know if I'm being stubborn, but I just don't do it. Maybe it's because in most cases the pills are huge. Does anyone out there know of vitamins in smaller sizes?

I dont take vitamins, some make me very ill. But i do take Frutaiga a health supmiment that i take one ounce in the morning and one ounce in the evening and i have the energy that i use to have as a teenager. I can also speep at night with no problems. www.redliquidhealth.com What have you got to loose?

I am not a doctor, but I have read materials that indicate the importance of taking supplements. Your needs will be different from mine, but you have to discuss that with your physician. Even a balanced diet has been known to be deficient in Vitamin A, Vitamin C, the B-Vitamins, Calcium, and Iron. Nine out of every ten diets are marginal in chromium and contain only one-half of the RDA for magnesium. It is also estimated that the average intake of folic acid is approximately one-half the adult RDA. I used to not worry much about supplements, but still took multi-vitamins on a regular basis. But when my brother was diagnosed with nasal cancer, I put things into perspective. I had to reassess my eating habits, and incorporated a more consistent exercise program and daily supplementation. I admit I don't take pills, capsules, powder drinks or juices, as I used to because they don't allow me to be consistent. I find them harder to swallow or inconvenient to take since I have to mix or chase them with water. I have been fortunate to find supplements in a gel form, which have worked wonders for me and my family. I did not even get the flu during this flu season, which was not the case before. UMI, an immunity booster contains fucoidan, which you have to google and read up for yourself what it can do. This gel packet has been part of my daily regimen. It pays to be healthy (i know what my brother had to go through) and more importantly, prevention is better than cure.
They tend me to make me ill...maybe I need to talk to him again about the possibility of supplements for my age???

Hi Susan,

My name is Donna Barnett and I am a registered nurse. I have learned through a supplement company I am associated with that we can't get what we need from our food anymore. Preservatives, toxins and stress have increased our levels of oxidation/inflammation in our bodies that cause degenerative diseases like heart disease, cancer, diabetes and others. Heart disease is actually an epidemic created by man in the twentieth century! We DO need additional antioxidants every single day. If you would like more information, please write me at donnagbarnett@gmail.com.

Yes, I do. My name is Donna Barnett and I am a registered nurse and independent associate for a nutritional supplement company. Vitamins are not FDA approved, so most of what you buy over the counter is not guaranteed for potency, quality and bioavailability (ability to dissolve). The ones you have taken might be constipating you because they are dissolving well. Please contact me for further information and I know I can assist you in solving this problem. I think that everyone's body is different and people who live in different regions receive different nutrients naturally. Ie. if you happen to live in an area where fresh fruits and veggies are part of the norm, you'll need less of a supplement. However, it would be the rare type of superwoman who is really truly getting everything she needs without a supplement. If you are the rare bird - please tell us what you are eating and doing to not receive supplements?

In 1936, the Senate document #264 states that our farm soil was depleted of nutrients. The farmers are required to replace only 3 or 4 of the many we need for basic physiological functioning. We cannot get what we need from the soil, we must supplement. If you would like to learn more about nutraceuticals go to www.partnersinwellness.nutrametrix.com. Choose a nutraceutical that you would like to learn more about and click on the "i" for information. It will give you benefits, clinical studies, etc... It is very educational.

One of the reasons people take vitamins is to help boost their immune systems and depending upon which one or ones you take, it may help with other issues that you have going on inside of your body.

Everyone knows what is best for them.  I only take an Omega 3 (www.Neurovi.com) supplement because it helps me stay alert.  It's true that many vitamins you buy over the counter are probably not as effective as changing your diet.  There is a HUGE difference from brand to brand.

Your doctor might have been talking about over the counter vitamins which are usually not the "best" quality.  Sometimes you do get what you paid for.  On the other hand although I dont spend much on MINE..it is one of the best because it has a high ratio of DHA (what helps your brain work!)..MUCH better than the most popular brands..and very affordable.. I was able to get mine at a discount too..I think the code to enter was "gift of health".  They give you a 12% discount if you use that at check out.
