Hypothyroidism is caused by an underproduction of thyroid hormone. Symptoms include fatigue, loss of appetite, inability to tolerate cold, a slow heart rate, weight gain, painful premenstrual periods, fertility problems, muscle weakness, muscle cramps, dry and scaly skin.
The illness develops slowly, and early symptoms such as fatigue, lack of zest, and sensitivity to cold may be attributed to other sources, such as stress.
Many times the tests given at your doctor's office will show your thyroid is normal. This happened to me even though I felt so certain that my thyroid was acting very sluggish. I had the weight gain and I had NEVER had a weight problem unless it was being too thin. I was so tried I couldn't keep my eyes open past 9 pm most nights. My hands and feet were freezing and my feet would turn blue from being so cold. My skin had always been dry but it started to crack and no lotion would help the skin on my legs and hands. I lost half of my eyebrows and my hair got super thin.
I did some searching for how to help kick start my thyroid since taking meds was out of the question. Remember, the tests came back normal. Anyway, I came across this great "report" that had so many things I could try. Things like 17 foods to eat regularly and 16 all natural remedies to treat the symptoms of hypothyroidism.
Here's the Thyroid report if you want to know more. If it helps you the way it did me, please let us know in the comments below.
