How Many Smokers Do You Know? Will they be one of the 1 billion to die from smoking?

Picking up from this post about smoking. I wrote about smokers not sleeping well. It's now apparent that 1 billion smokers will die by the end of the century based on the number of cigarette smokers today. Wow, 1 Billion deaths linked to smokers!
5.4 million people die each year — one every six seconds — from lung cancer, heart disease or other illness directly linked to tobacco use. Smoking killed 100 million people in the 20th century, and the yearly death toll could pass 8 million as soon as 2030 — 80% of those deaths will be in the developing world, where tobacco use is growing most rapidly.
More money needs to go for Stop Smoking programs and make the cost resonable for average people to afford. I know some smokers who want to quit with the help of patches, or other programs but they can't afford it. I know, you are thinking the loss of life costs more but we don't understand their money so let's just not go there. Just make the help available and the ones ready to quit will find a way.
