Healthy Blood Sugar Levels

Posted Feb 03 2009 10:55pm

Avoid sugar Americans struggle to maintain stable blood sugar levels. Many people are not aware of the importance of lowered blood sugar levels and some people suffering from it, can hardly tell what the most common symptoms are.

Fatigue and anxiety may arise when blood sugar levels fall fast but, in most cases, hypoglycemia can be controlled with simple lifestyle changes.

Regulating your diet is the first self-care step. Select foods rich in fiber such as whole grains, vegetables and fruits. It’s also important to eat light and often, spreading out the meals during the day.

Carbohydrates should be reduced from your diet. Carbs are quickly absorbed and may trigger hypoglycemic reactions. Sugar and flour are the most common sources of refined carbohydrates and may be substitute for alternative products.

Supplements may be helpful as well. Chromium is an essential mineral which helps stabilize blood sugar swings. For the majority of people, a simple dose of 200 mcg a day should be enough to avoid low levels of glucose.

Supplements made specifically for unstable blood sugar levels may prevent conditions such as problems caused by the body’s overreaction after eating. Some people experience several symptoms that generally occur after eating resulting in a rapid drop in the blood sugar levels.

Some products have a combination of herbs to help this problem, working as a stabilizer and building up resistance to reactive hypoglycemia.

One last recommendation: avoid caffeinated and alcoholic beverages.
