Glutamine Doesn't Improve Athletic Performance

Glutamine is a non-essential amino acid that's nevertheless an important part of the body's protein synthesis. It also positively affects the immune system and is thought to decrease perceived exertion during workouts, which makes it a popular supplement for athletes looking to boost power, speed, and recovery. However, a recent study found no evidence that glutamine can improve athletic performance, and further notes that it might increase cholesterol. While glutamine is naturally found in lean meats and other protein-rich foods, there may not be a need to take Glutamine supplements.
