Deep Frying, Deep Trouble

Fried foodFried food is dangerous. We all know that but for many people fried food taste good and delightfully crispy. If you are eating fried food every once in a while, no problem, but it may create serious health issues if you are eating it regularly.

Deep-frying does not make food excessively greasy if performed properly because the moisture in the food repels the oil. As long as the oil is hot enough and the food is not immersed in the oil for too long, oil penetration will be confined to the outer surface. However, if the food is cooked in the oil for too long, much of the water will be lost and the oil will begin to penetrate the food.

Some fried foods are given a coating of batter or breading prior to frying, so the outside of the food becomes crispy and browned, while the inside becomes tender, moist, and steamed. Potatoes and chicken have a natural coating and do not require breading or battering.

Most people generally eat fried food in restaurants and fast food chains, such as KFC and its famous fried chicken. KFC has recently started to offer grilled chicken recipes with fewer calories and less fat.

When a giant food chain such as KFC changes its trademark recipe to offer consumers a healthier product, it sends a message to many consumers and even some fast food competitors: it’s time to focus on healthy food.

Instead of frying, you can try grilling or baking your dinner, creating a delicious meal which will be infinitely better for you. Using natural cooking oil can create an even healthier meal. Olive oil , canola oil and safflower oil are excellent choices for cooking. And don’t forget about the environment. Deep frying produces large amounts of waste oil, which must be properly disposed.
