FDA is cracking the vitamin whip

Posted by C.L. R.

As of this month, the FDA is stepping up their care and feeding of vitamins and herbs. Since that sentence made no sense, I'll break it down into layman's terms - apparently, it is not uncommon for a vitamin to claim to have a potency that it in fact, does not. The FDA is concerned and will start testing products for accuracy.

Since they are giving companies about a year before the fines and penalties set in, we're probably slated to keep purchasing our crapshoot vitamins until then. This is news to me, as I always assumed they were already regulated. Who knew?

The good vitamin and supplement companies regulate themselves already. That is what makes them so good. Standard Process, Peter Gillham's and Twin Lab I believe regulate their product. The product costs more but it's worth it. FDA needs to continue to monitor pharmaceuticals -- drugs because drugs are much more dangerous and addictive than vitamins and supplements. News reports this year, "gifts" to medical doctors who prescribe a certain drugs -- kickbacks. Also, pharmaceutical research is not all that honest and trust worthy. Reportedly there are kickbacks there too.
