Women of any age, especially those over 40, constantly hear advice from their doctor about maintaining a healthy weight, getting exercise, and staying active. But sometimes those things are easier said than done.
Now, a new book called Betty Crocker's Cookbook for Women makes it easier for women to stay healthy. Written in a unique format, it provides tips on heart health and lifestyle advice for every stage of a women's life, decade by decade. It also features easy-to-follow nutrition tips and family-friendly recipes. The recipes in the book use lots of fruits and vegetables, as they contain plenty of vitamins, antioxidants and nutrients. It also includes heart healthy ingredients like soy milk and whole grains, along with fish dishes that are high in Omega-3 fatty acids.
And since osteoporosis affects four times as many women as men, the book emphasizes foods that include calcium, found in yogurt and other dairy products, as well as strength building exercises like weight lifting and resistance training.
Shez B.Feb 12 2008It looks like an interesting book, but I was wondering about the fact that they claim milk gives calcium that will protect against osteoporosis. I have learned that green leafy vegetables such as broccoli and kale are much better sources of calcium.Reply
