The benefits of TOFU

Posted by Shez B.

This is a good source of protein and is packed with nutrients necessary for good health. It has been shown to lower cholesterol and improve cardiovascular function. Because tofu is Soya based, it has been shown to be helpful in alleviating the symptoms associated with menopause. Soya foods, like tofu, contain phytoestrogens, specifically the isoflavones which may provide just enough estrogenic activity to prevent or reduce uncomfortable symptoms, like hot flashes. Studies suggest that soy isoflavones may also promote the restoration of bone and therefore inhibit postmenopausal osteoporosis. Additionally, most types of tofu are enriched with calcium, which can help prevent the accelerated bone loss for which women are at risk during menopause. It is also provides energy and is rich in antioxidant minerals. Selenium, trace mineral is particularly abundant in tofu, with its anti-Cancer and anti-Inflammatory properties along with a wide variety of other benefits.
