My trainer tossed me a carrot a few weeks ago — the idea that I might start some weekly cheat meals soon. And this past Sunday was the night! In anticipation of the Sunday cheat, I am moderating carbs on Fridays and Saturdays, so I get to eat a little less oatmeal and fewer apples. But eating what most people would think is a “normal’ meal on Sunday nights makes the carb moderation so worth it!
This Sunday, I genuinely had very little craving for a particular cheat meal. Odd, because usually my first inclination is pizza. David and I headed over to Wegmans, though, and I browsed their prepared foods department for good eats. I pretty much ended up with a mix of foods I wouldn’t normally purchase from Wegmans, though for the most part, this is still relatively “healthy” stuff:
Vegetarian chili with kidney beans and lentils
Part of an organic whole wheat roll
Roasted acorn and butternut squash with summer squash, mushrooms and onions
Roasted asparagus with Gorgonzola and pecans
Roasted yams with brown sugar glaze
Pesto tofu
A large, yummy, spicy pumpkin cookie with cream cheese frosting
Oh, and I had some peanut butter. Directly out of the jar, of course, just because I could!
Best cheat meal ever? No. But satisfying and a welcome change to the norm nonetheless.
