What’s a vegetarian yogini’s idea of heaven on earth? India! And yours truly gets to go in just a few weeks; to say I’m excited is an understatement. India has been on the top of my must see/visit list for years & I can’t wait to explore this deeply spirtitual, rich country, meet new people, eat delicious food. Here are some of the places I’ll be exploring in beautiful India:
New Delhi: New Delhi is the second most populous city in India with nearly 17 million residents — huge city! We’ll be visiting the National Museum, Qutb Minar & the Gandhi Memorial. We’ll also be ringing in the new year in this vibrant city & staying at an Ashram, my first!
Agra: Hoe of the Taj Mahal, one of the seven wonders of the world. Did you know it took 22 years to build the Taj? This has always been on top of my list as far as landmarks are concerned, can’t wait to see it!
Rishikesh: On the foothills of the Himalayes, Rishikesh is known as the yoga capital of the world, needless to say I’m super excited about going to this place! This will be a low key portion of the trip just enjoying Ashram life, the mountains & overall serenity
Varanasi: This city is considered the holiest city in India. On the banks of the Ganges, the oldest city in India is rich with history & spirituality. We’ll be visiting the Vishwanath Temple, partkae in Aarthi Pujna (sunset ceremony along teh river), visiting teh Durga & Bharat Temples
Sarnath: Known for its ancient buddhist mnasteries, Sarnath is just a short trip from Varanasi. Every year Buddhist sects travel to Sarnath on a pilgrimage to see the stupas (reliquary mounds)
Though I’m excited about the trip as a whole one of the things I’m most excited about is getting to experience Ashram life firsthand. As a practicer of yoga, I’ve always wanted to go to an Ashram & disconnect from the world to meditate & practice yoga, I mean, how awesome does that sound?! In preparation I’m doing a lot of yoga, working on several poses & enjoying every minute of it. It’s going to be epic! I can’t wait to share my journey to India when I get back in January. For now, keep meeting me here to hear about preparations before the trip & the excitement leading up to it. Can’t wait!
Have you ever been to India? What’s at the top of your must see/visit list?
