One of the common buzzwords among health-conscious foodies is “clean eating”. Although clean eating is not a new concept, it has certainly brought about a means of conversation in the health world. So, what exactly is it? The Eat Clean Diet is Tosca Reno’s approach to complete and total health. Much less of an actual “diet” than a complete lifestyle overhaul, it emphasizes eating whole, healthy foods like fruits and vegetables, whole grain and lean protein in lieu of processed and refined carbohydrates. Its rigid and structured principals take the ideas promoted by national health organizations to an extreme which can be intimidating for some, but overall extremely beneficial to health and wellness.
Originally gaining its support from bodybuilders and fitness models, The Eat Clean Diet has since spread to welcome advocates of all different shapes and sizes. Although it’s structured nature certainly isn’t for everyone, for some it makes all the difference. Some benefactors include individuals who are extremely overweight, those training for a specific sport or event, people who suffer from disordered eating and people with a strong sense of will power. I personally have found it difficult to follow without falter, but have benefited immensely from keeping the concepts in mind during meal times.
Seek whole, natural foods and try to eliminate processed or packaged ones.
Always chose unrefined foods over processed ones (ie. whole wheat flour > white flour, brown rice > white rice)
Steer clear of salt and sugar
Consume only healthy fats
Eat lean protein, complex carbohydrates and healthy fats at every meal
Eat five to six small meals throughout the day
Drink water, as much as you can, as often as you can
Don’t drink calories (juices, sodas and soft drinks contain tons of sugar, drink unsweetened iced tea or water instead)
Ever since eating clean made it’s way out of the fitness industry, it sparked a new generation of healthy eaters and inspired health nuts worldwide. Clean Eating Magazine , Oxygen Magazine , and blogs all over the internet are useful resources to find out more about this health phenomenon.
Although I didn’t think that I could be anymore in love with Tosca and her healthy diet approach, she recently broke some big news that could be extremely beneficial to both me and all my vegetarian friends/followers! The Eat Clean Diet has finally come out with a book on vegetarian eating! I currently am waiting for my copy of the Eat Clean Diet Vegetarian Cookbook to come in and I am so excited to tear through it! I own three of Tosca’s other books, one of them being the Original Eat Clean Diet Cookbook , and I absolutely love it.
