A good reason to go veggie

I was reading recently that ancient Indian texts believe that eating non-vegetarian food leads to higher passions that makes a person more volatile, and causes them to get angry quickly. On the other hand, vegetarian food has a calming influence that makes a person more contained and relaxed. I do not know how true this actually is. However, many people, including Mahatma Gandhi, the famous Indian who advocated non-violence, have recommended a vegetarian diet because of this reason.
In a way, I feel that this is also what the food pyramid says – that closer to the bottom you are, where all the veggies are, the better it is. Does anybody have any thoughts on this?
