WHATEVER WEDNESDAYS- HOLIDAY SURVIVAL TIPS

Posted Dec 15 2010 12:00am
Hey folks,

Hope you're having a good Wednesday!  I can't believe the holiday season is here and 2011 is right around the corner.  The holidays always bring a lot of parties where food and drinks are the center of attention.  Most people give themselves more permission to indulge around this time of the year because they are preparing for their "get fit for the new year" resolution!  I used to be one of those people.  I would allow myself to indulge in excess decadence because I would be on top of it in January..LOL!  Well, I have definitely changed that way of thinking over the years.  Taking care of our bodies is a 24/7 gig, we shouldn't take time off for the holidays.

If you've been following me for a while, you know I have a sweet tooth and thoroughly enjoy all the vegan goodness I post about, but I do my absolute best to indulge in moderation, even around the holidays.  Even though I only eat vegan, it is still possible to be unhealthy living this lifestyle.  You still have to make wise choices for your body each day.

For those of you going out to holiday parties, following are some tips that are very useful.  I'm sure you have heard them before, but we all need a reminder every now and then right? :-)

1) Don't go starving.  Always try to eat a little something before leaving the house to help you not overdo it when you arrive.

2) Don't spend your time hovering over the food table- instead focus your attention on other guests and good conversation.

3) If you're the one throwing the party or if it's a potluck, offer or bring a nice fruit platter or veggie tray with hummus.

4) Be sure to stop eating when you're satisfied.  Just because there are leftovers, doesn't mean you have to eat them.

5) Be sure to drink enough water- we all know need for hydration is often confused for hunger.  If you like cocktails, this will also help you not overdo it in this area as well.

The above are just some helpful examples to help you keep your cool and waistline during the holiday season! :-)  This way you can go into the new year already on track!

Lastly, always enjoy and don't over analyze or stress about food, but always do your best to listen to your body.  It always tells us what we need or what we're missing, not only during the holiday season, but throughout the year!

Enjoy and have a great holiday! I hope there are some "go vegan" resolutions being made out there! :-)
