Do you ever feel as though your brownies are missing something? Sure, they may be fudgy. Sure, they're filled with gooey chocolate. But are they alluring? Intriguing? Do they have a certain mystique? Do they have...booze?
I'm assuming you answered no, so let me introduce you to what you're missing out on: Rum Raisin Fudge Brownies. Lucky soul that I am, I get the honor of testing recipes for Hannah Kaminsky's next cookbook, and these brownies were project number one. I probably don't need to tell all of you that Hannah is like the queen of innovative vegan desserts, having authored My Sweet Vegan and the Bittersweet blog, so I was very excited to be able to help out.
Well, when we received our first test recipe, I'll admit I was nervous. I tried rum raisin ice cream once and thought it was possibly the worst flavor of all time. I was afraid the testing wouldn't get off to a very good start for me. Luckily, I was wrong. Very wrong, in fact! As they baked, the brownies filled the house with an amazing aroma, making me hopeful that the finished product would taste as good as it smelled. Once cooled and cut, I took a bite. The raisins had been transformed into little rum-soaked candies, and the brownies were intensely rich with just a hint of spice. Definitely a winner.
One of the reasons I was looking forward to being a tester was because I wanted to be forced to try things I would normally overlook...and I think these fit the bill! Be on the lookout for more enticing recipes in the weeks to come.
