The Word on Wheatgrass
Wheatgrass is a true superfood that is absolutely packed full of nutrients. You’ve got:
Despite the name it does not contain gluten, the gluten is converted to amino acid form during the sprout phase of growth so it is also suitable for those on a gluten free diet.
Wheatgrass also helps to mop up free radical damage preventing cell mutations and the aging of the skin! This is particularly good for anyone who does regular strenuos exercise which causes unstable oxygen molecules and promotes free radical damage.
Unfortunately you can’t get access to all this good stuff by just eating it, juicing brings out all the nutrients in the wheatgrass so we can easily assimilate them. The incredible amount of nutrients in just 1oz of wheatgrass is said to equate to the amounts in 2.5 pounds of other leafy greens-that’s a lot of greens! Now I love my leafy greens, but on a day when I’m busy and don’t have time to cook extravagant meals, a wheatgrass shot is a great way to get in your greens and all the goodness they provide.
Harvesting at the sprout phase of growth means wheatgrass it is an incredible source of nutrients and a powerful antioxidant. It is cleansing, detoxifying but also building making it in my opinion a true superfood.
It’s important to start off slowly with it, I’m just taking a small shot for 2 days and then taking a day off it every week. I’ve learned my lesson from taking it after food with the queasy feelings, so I will avoid that from now on. I think the benefits of wheatgrass are incredible, I can’t wait until I start growing my own which will be even better!
