Race-Ready for a Non-Race

What do you like better, Christmas or Triathlon Season?

While triathlon season is one of my very favorite times of year, the truth is, I’m a little rusty. I’ve dedicated so much time to next weekend’s 50k that I’ve hardly had time to think about triathlon. My poor bike had a flat tire when I took it out of the garage. It’s definitely in need of a little TLC.

Tomorrow, American Running Company is putting on a mock-triathlon in Dunedin to kick off the season. Transition will be set up along with a 1/2 or 1/4 mile swim, 10-mile bike, and 3 mile run course. It’s not timed, non-competitive and you go at your own pace. It’s a perfect way for us all to dust off our bikes, shake out our nerves and get back in to the swim, bike and run of things.

I’ve gotten so used to waking up for a race, pinning on my number, slipping on my running shoes and heading out the door that I’ve completely forgotten how overwhelming it is to pack for a triathlon.

I still feel like I’m forgetting something, and I usually do. Getting race-ready for a non-race is a bit strange for me. I’m still neurotically going through my pre-race rituals but I guess that is the point of tomorrow’s event. Either way, I’m ready and looking forward to a fun swim-bike-run in the morning!
