Last Friday I was able to check out Native Foods’ new Santa Monica location for lunch before it opened to the public. I went with Pearl, Ryan and his mom, who was in town visiting. Pearl and I are finally getting out and about more, and it’s been so long since I’ve posted anything that I thought it would be great to share some photos of the amazing food we got. God knows I’m not doing much cooking these days, so if I’m going to write about food it needs to be food that someone else made!
I got the Classic Deli Reuben with a side of Lemon Dill Potato Salad, pictured above. This was by far the best reuben I’ve had since going vegan. In my book it blows all the other LA vegan reubens away. It was incredible. The potato salad was the perfect accompaniment. The whole thing was tart, tangy, salty, creamy – perfect.
Ryan’s mom got the Portobello and Sausage Burger with a side of Sweet Potato Fries. She couldn’t stop raving about it and insisted I have a bite. I’m glad I did, because it was really delicious and something I’d definitely get on another visit.
And you know my favorite part is dessert! Although I love the savory food at Native Foods so much that it might actually equal my love for dessert. I had the Peanut Butter Parfait, which I could eat by the bucketful. Ryan and his mom got cupcakes, which were also yummy.
We got a few other things that aren’t pictured, like the Native Chicken Wings and the Nuevo Native Nachos. Ryan got the BBQ Love Burger, which was aptly named because he loved it. We just didn’t have a great photo of it, unfortunately.
I really recommend checking out this Native Foods location, which opened to the public today. It’s a great spot with a huge outdoor patio and a good amount of indoor seating. There’s also plenty of free parking in back and underneath the structure. If you’re vegan, it’s heaven, but even if you’re not, I guarantee you will have a fantastic meal. Ryan’s mom was total blown away by the food, and she isn’t even vegetarian. And if you’re not near Santa Monica there are plenty of other locations to check out. I just wish they’d already been in Chicago when I still lived there!
Also, as full disclosure, we did receive all this food courtesy of Native Foods during their soft opening phase, and while I’m incredibly grateful for their generosity, this in no way affected what I’ve written. I would gladly pay and still rave!
