Last year, I started menu planning for weeks in advance. Many of you that know me realize this is yet another tool of organization for my OCD. I found that menu planning has really helped me save time and money at the grocery store. This summer, I got out of the habit, because our nights were so unpredictable. However, I recently started planning for the upcoming school year. I’m trying to get through the end of September. I have been known to plan for a month in advance. And if something comes up, I can save the food for something else, or if it really needs to be used I’ll do switch things around. I find that with menu planning, I buy less groceries that I don’t need. This is because I make my grocery list according to the menu – and buy pretty much ONLY what I need for those meals. I plan for breakfast and dinner. Lunches are usually leftovers, sandwich/pita or salads. We don’t eat a lot of “snack” foods in our house, but even with the planning it has kept keep those out of the house even more. Needless to say, it has been a huge success! We don’t have kids, but I would imagine this would be something a lot of moms (especially those moms that have careers) would consider trying if they haven’t.
In other news from the Stevenson home…….
We both start school on the 24th – coming up fast! I have to head back on Friday the 21st for meetings, retreats, etc. It’s been a great summer, but I’m ready to head back to school. The sooner it starts, the sooner it’s over and I can get back in the classroom again! Micah is going to Kirkwood for this year while I finish at Western Illinois University. We’ll then be transferring to a school he is looking at….more information on that later. If you REALLY are dying to know, you can ask me!
