Hemp bars

Posted May 15 2009 12:32am

So after my post about hemp, you're maybe curious about the hemp bars. Well, here they are and I have to say they were so awesome! They can also be made without the hemp if you can't get it in your country, and they'll still be healthy and delicious.

45 g (1/3 cup) sunflower seeds
45 g (1/3 cup) pumpkin seeds
3 tbl soft hulled hemp seeds
2 tbl poppy seeds (maanzaad)
2 tbl carob powder
1 tbl grounded flaxseed (lijnzaad)
1 tbl canola oil (koolzaadolie)
60 ml (1/4 cup) rice syrup (rijststroop)

Preheat the oven to 190 C/374 F

Making the bars is easy. Place all the dry ingredients in a bowl. Here you can see what the hemp seeds look like:

Add the oil and mix:

Now add the syrup and mix with a spoon until all the seeds become sticky. Place this in a small oven dish which is lined with parchment paper. Press the seeds down with your fingers. You can wet your fingers if the mixture is too sticky.

Place in the oven for 10 to 15 minutes. Take the dish out of the oven and let the bars cool. Prepare a chocolate ganache by melting bitter chocolate with a little soy milk and syrup. Spread this with a brush on top of the bars. Place the dish in the fridge and leave to set. Only when the bars are firm and cold, can you carefully cut them with a small sharp knife.
