As of Wednesday, Jonathan and I have been vegan for three years! It's amazing how fast the time has gone and strange to imagine living any other way. I love being vegan and think it's one of the best decisions I've ever made. Who knew that a seemingly simple change in diet could influence so many spheres of a person's life? In honor of this milestone, I thought I would share some of the books that have guided me on this path. In the order read:
1.The Dhammapada- all beings feel pain, all beings fear death. 2.The Yoga Cookbook(Sivananda Yoga Center) - as I delved deeper into my yoga practice, I grew interested in a yogic diet, free of meat and centered around natural foods. 3.Jivamukti Yoga(Sharon Gannon and David Life) - the brief section in this book devoted toahimsacompletely opened my eyes to the horrors of factory farming and inspired me to read... 4.Animal Liberation(Peter Singer) - forever changed my views on animals and their relationships with humans. 5.Diet for a New America(John Robbins) - classic vegan tome, a definite must-read for anyone interested in the environment, animal welfare, and health. 6.Becoming Vegan(Brenda Davis and Vesanto Melina) - useful for when skeptics ask nutritional science questions; after reading this you'll be armed with the knowledge of not only where vegans get calcium and protein, but also zinc, iron, niacin, etc.
