We went to this nearby "butcher shop", Kiesinger , on Friedrichstrasse, that serves cheap, delicious, and importantly for me, hot food for lunch. They have a daily special set menu for around 6 euros including a salad, soup, and a meat dish. Or, like us, you can just buy whatever is on offer that day. I chose a meat burger/pattie/ball without gravy, a potato dish with an egg broken on top (which reminds me of a Parsi dish, Papeta pur Eedu, but I guess everyone has a dish with eggs broken on top of boiled and spicy potato), and half a kilo of grilled chicken (that was the only size it was available in - and I had it for dinner). I LOVED the meat pattie...so juicy and flavorful. It's weird I never liked meat before, and never ever have just meat as the main dish with no veggies at all, but this pattie I could have it everyday!
And the grilled chicken was so buttery and peppery...Mmmm. And I'm still not done with the chicken...have over 3/4th left over for another day. And the grand total of my meal - under 10 euros! Love that everything's so cheap - My mind is still not computing that 10 euros is Rs 6500, but rather like I've just spent Rs 10 in another country. :)
Other foods that have sustained me so far in Germany
Had zuccini soup with bread and beer - and again the bill was under 7 euros!
