Friends, Food and Fun

Posted Mar 27 2011 8:49pm

Last week was so much fun!  Lots of friends, food and fun!

Two of my friends met up with me (on different days) at one of my favorite coffee shops – Stomping Grounds.  I’ve been to this place several times now (see here , here , and here !) and it never disappoints.  Ever.

One of the reasons why I love Stomping Grounds is that they support local food.  Are you getting tired of me talking about the importance of local food?  I sure hope not! I cannot stress enough how important it is in my life.

On Wedneday and Thursday, I ate dinner here.  Wednesday I had the vegetarian sandwich (so good – I wrote about it before here ), but didn’t photograph at all.  Thursday I had the egg salad sandwich while meeting with the lovely  Anna .  She is student teaching now and gave me some cool technology resources she learned from one of her mentor teachers.  I also got to fill her in on my life – and my new job.  I remember being  a brand new teacher and just trying to soak up all the resources I could (and still do that!).  The great thing about being a teacher is that everyone is willing to share ideas.  I do not mind at all (and encourage) when someone wants to use one of my ideas.

You can really tell these eggs are fresh.  And, this is the best egg salad I have ever had.  Incredible, edible, eggs!

Greens were great too {homemade balsamic…mmmmmm}!

Friday evening, Micah and I headed to Ritual Café in Des Moines.  Some of my students were performing in an event and we went out to support them.  It was awesome and the place was PACKED!!!  I could not believe how many people came out!  Performances included singing, comedy acts, playing violin, reading poetry and more – I loved every minute of it.

Ritual Café has a 100% vegetarian menu.  I ordered the vegan grilled veggie panini.  Holy yum!

That hummus……rocked!!!  The tomatoes reminded me of late august – a nice surprise!

It was a messy sandwich, but I didn’t mind at all licking the plate clean.

The rest of our weekend has been pretty relaxing.  To end our weekend, we took a walk at the Iowa State Campus.  It was beautiful {despite only being about 37 degrees……spring, where did you go?}.  Note to self: Finding a parking space on campus is impossible on a Sunday afternoon.  Glad we don’t mind walking!

How was your weekend?
