Wellington and Vernay win Ironman Australia

Wellington Two time Ironman World Champion Chrissie Wellington (shown here winning the Ironnman World Championship in Kona) is now two time Ironman Australia champion. The British triathlete who lives and trains in Boulder, Colorado easily won the Country Energy Ironman Australia coming in 11th overall and breaking the nine hour mark with a time of 8:57:10.

Ironman.com is reporting: "Rebekah Keat has just crossed the line here to take second place in the women' s field at the 2009 Country Energy Ironman Australia. Keat did well to keep up with Wellington throughout the day, but couldn' t hold on as the world champion took off in the bike."

Caroline Steffen has just crossed the line for third place. In the mix for a lot of the day, the Swiss local couldn' t keep up when Wellington and Keat put their respective marks on the race."

On the men' s side of the race it was New Caledonia' s Patrick Patrick Vernay who according to Ironman.com, "Vernay had tough competition all day, but fought back late in the run to take the crown"
