Video: Europeans dominate at the Avia Wildflower long course triathlon

Posted May 01 2010 5:19pm

Julie1 Julie Dibens of Great Britain and Michael Raelert of Germany mixed it up with thousands of amatuer triathletes at the annual Avia Wildflower long course triathlon, and both Europeans ended up on the top podium position at the end of the day's racing.

Dibens, who from England but trains in Boulder, Colorado, beat second place finisher Desiree Ficker by almost seven minutes on the strength of her bike segment.

Julie Dibbens pictured here winning the 5430 long course triathlon in Boulder.

Ficker, who has been focusing on her running lately, finished in second position but with the fastest run time of the day.

A run split of 1:15:16, the second fastest in Wildflower long course history, is also what easily secured the podium position for Michael Raelert over second place finisher and Australian triathlete Joe Gambles.

Tomorrow the racing continues with the short course race at the annual Avia Wildflower Triathlon Festival.
