Valentine's day came and went. What does a triathlete couple do for V-day? We didn't do much at all. 4 hours on the bike. 40 or so minutes running. Dinner at home with a movie.
Sunday was the marathon. Training buddy and friend Patrick Darragh ran 2:40:33. I ran a few miles with him, and based on how he was running towards the end, I would say that he ran a very smart and well paced race. He was a little behind the first 1/2 (I think) and then came back strong the 2nd half. Whether you have the miles in your legs or not, planning to take it easier early on is a good strategy for a marathon. Building a cushion the first 1/2 can work, but when it doesn't, it usually really doesn't. Other than that, some easy training Sunday.
Monday was President's day and I had the day off. It was a hard run workout (HIT) Monday morning followed by a hard bike workout on the trainer. Then it was a much needed massage at Performance Wellness. It's probably been over a month since I had a massage...I was due for one. An easy run in the evening called it a day.
Last week was about 18.5 or so hours. Solid solid training all around. This week will be more solid training all around with some well planned easier days too.
