USA triathlon honors top amateur triathletes and duathletes

Posted Jan 25 2011 9:04pm

458 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Following a year that featured scores of memorable and inspirational performances, USA Triathlon is pleased to announce the 2010 Age Group Athletes of the Year, presented by Garmin, an honor awarded annually by USA Triathlon's Age Group Committee and Duathlon Committee.

Later this week, USA Triathlon will announce its Junior Athletes of the Year, the USA Paratriathlon Athletes of the Year, presented by Accenture, and the Elite Athletes of the Year.

"Our screening process this year for the Athletes of the Year Awards was quite lengthy because we had such a high quality field to select from in virtually every division. We want to congratulate those who ultimately have been selected for these awards. You have demonstrated an inspired performance over and over again throughout the 2010 season," said Chuck Graziano, chair of the USA Triathlon Athlete of the Year Committee.

Overall Triathlete of the Year honors went to Kaleb VanOrt (Mishawaka, Ind.) and Mandy McLane (Boulder, Colo.) - also the overall winners at the 2010 USA Triathlon Age Group National Championship. VanOrt also posted elite age group victories at the Chicago Triathlon and Rev3 Knoxville.

In addition to her win at Age Group Nationals, McLane captured the women's 30-34 title at the Ironman World Championship 70.3 in Clearwater, Fla., and was the top elite amateur finisher at the Miami International Triathlon and the St. Anthony's Triathlon.
