The rumors first surfaced on slowtwitch.com right after the Ironman race.
Competitors racing on the 112-mile Ironman Louisville bike course seemed to be having a large number of flats.
We just received this email from John Little, an age-group athlete who competed this weekend at the race:
"I did IM Louisville on Sunday.
There was some serious anti-IM sentiment in the country side. Someone spray painted a giant “No Ironman” sign on the road and there were small upholstery tacks spread at many places.
The roads were clean, smooth, nice asphalt, but there were more flats than you’ve ever seen in an IM.
I flatted, puncture; many people found tacks in their tires; many had two or more flats.
I spoke with one of the bike support people on Monday morning and he confirmed the tacking. Sad and unfortunate."
