I'm just finishing up my 4th week of training with Coach Mary, and, although I'm sure I've told you already, I love it!! We are in what is called pre-base traininng...just sort of getting geared up for the season. I have been working a lot on my run form, and Coach has had me doing strength 2 times a week, which is a big change for me.
I feel so much stronger after just 8 sessions! The first thing on my training sheet is 2x20 pushups. The first week I was doing 10 regular pushups followed by 10 girly pushups to equal 20 for each set. Yesterday I was able to do 20 regular pushups for the first set, then 17/3 for the second set! Woot!!
Coach has had me doing some pull work with paddles, which is definitely bringing out some inconsistencies in my stroke. I did a test last week, and my T time (average pace per 100 yards) is 1:45. I felt really good about that number. Yesterday this is what my workout looked like...including comments from Coach:
300 yards warm up choice.
10 X 100 on 2:15 holding a 1:45. It should not feel too bad.
4 X 100 on 2:00 holding 1:45. This might start to feel sketchy.
2 X 100 on 1:50. This should feel bad :-)
100 cool down.
She definitely knows what she is talking about! ;)
My running has been going great. I told Kel just the other day, that I really think I have made a breakthrough in my form. Up to this point, I don't think I have ever really "run"...I merely plodded along. The downside is that my right heel has started to bother me a bit. I decided to be super proactive and go get a sports massage from my favorite PT, Chuck P., over at Multisports PT. He worked out my legs so good it hurt...seriously. My heel is still a bit sore, and I think it is stemming from tight calves and tight glutes that aren't used to real running. I have another run today, so hopefully it will feel better, and I am going to be vigilant about stretching.
Coach Mary wants me to run a 5K at some point in the next week or so and there are none scheduled around here, so I'm thinking about just getting a group of my girls together to run a 5K together.
Buttercup is loving all of the attention she has been getting. I've been working on getting my cadence faster, to much success. I've been doing some single leg drills...those minutes are so much longer than when I am using both legs for some reason!! I'm still getting adjusted to my new saddle, and I've been thinking I might need to get a pair of cycle shorts as opposed to using tri shorts all the time. It seems like the seams of the tri shorts hit right where I sit on the saddle...not always the most comfortable thing.
I'm officially registered for IronGirl as a part of their Team Courage for cancer survivors...I'm so excited!! I hope your training is going well!!
