Tour de France stage 4 results: no change to overall leaders as Petacchi takes the win

Posted Jul 07 2010 8:56am

After a tumultuous start to the 2010 Tour de France stage 4 proved to be one for the sprinters.

A classic five man breakaway was shut down by the Peloton in the final miles of the stage as the sprinters and their teams jostled for position in the run up to the finish.

It was somewhat of a surprise as Alessandro Petacchi (Ita) team Lampre-Farnese Vini took the win over Julian Dean (NZl) Garmin - team Transitions and the other favorite sprinters.

There was no change in the general classification which means that Lance Armstrong remains in 18th place a full 2:30 behind the yellow jersey of Fabian Cancellara (Swi) Team Saxo Bank.
