To car or not to car....

Posted Jun 20 2008 12:00am

As you know, I drive a million miles to work each day. OK...maybe not that many...but it is 31 miles each way to and from work each day. As well, you may know...I drive a crappy car. Now...ok...it's not so crappy...it runs fine (knock on wood now please) but it just simply is not and never has been my favorite car. Realize, I didn't buy this car- it was a present from the parents in 02. Seriously, who says no to a new car. Then....I go to Pittsburgh and apparently get hit in some parking lot and an enormous dent appears. Then, I could either pay 1000 bucks to get it fixed...or let it be..so I did...thinking...I really don't like the car much anyway.

But now...I am a "professional" and work in a "wealthy" district which apparently has standards. My coworkers drive Audi's and Lexus'. My car recently hit 100,000 miles. Therefore, the warranty is gone. I am thinking again it is only a matter of time until everything dies on the car and I refuse to "fix up" a car that I don't really like anyway.

So....here enters the new car debate. Now realize, I have no money. I have been trying my hardest to pay some of my big bills and continue to dent them all. R has a car payment after the Lexus debacle. But I never have had a car payment. Yes, I have lived a sheltered life. So, I have decided to go car shopping. There are two categories- the cars I want...but obviously can't afford.... which would be the Audi A4 and the Volkswagen EOS and the cars that I like and can possibly afford (see below). The car will be red. I just need a red car at this point in my life. Here are my options

They will both run me about 21 grand with tax.....YIKES. I don't know....what do you think?
