Still want to go to 2011 ITU long distance World Championships? Now you have a second chance

Posted Nov 17 2010 7:40pm

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - USA Triathlon has added two additional qualifying events for Team USA for the 2011 ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Championship on Nov. 5, 2011, in Henderson, Nev. - the 2011 Wildflower Triathlon and the 2011 Pigman Long Course Triathlon.
"Due to the effects of inclement weather prior to the 2010 USA Triathlon Long Course Triathlon National Championship in Myrtle Beach the dynamics of the initial qualifying event unfortunately were altered," said USA Triathlon National Events Director Jeff Dyrek. "With the world championship taking place on U.S. soil, USA Triathlon wanted to give American athletes another opportunity to qualify for Team USA and represent their country on the world stage."

At both events, the top five finishers in each age group (rolling down to 10th place) will earn a coveted Team USA spot. All spots earned in Myrtle Beach also will be honored.
Team USA is comprised of age group athletes that represent the U.S. at each ITU world championship event.
The first additional chance to qualify for ITU Long Distance Worlds will be at the May 1, 2011, Wildflower Triathlon in Bradley, Calif., which features a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bike and a 13.1-mile run. Click HERE for more information on the event.
The Pigman Long Course Triathlon, set for Aug. 21, 2011, in Palo, Iowa, also will feature a 1.2m swim, a 56m bike and a 13.1m run. Click HERE for more information on the event.
The ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Championship will be comprised of a 4k swim, a 120k bike and a 30k run. Click HERE to learn more about the event.
