It seems that a number of bloggers have been sharing meaningful, touching information about themselves recently. I enjoy reading those revelations very much and appreciate the bravery it takes to open one’s self up to the blog world. So, in solidarity with those great bloggers I think it is my time to do the same. So here goes.
I don’t shower after my morning workout. Yes that is right – I come in from a run with sweat running down my face and my inner layers soaked, even on the coldest days. And I don’t shower.
I come in to the house and take some time to go through my stretching routine. By that time the sweat has begin to dissipate and I am cooling down. I head upstairs and get out of my sweaty clothes. I usually hang them up to wear them again another day. Logic tells me that if I wash my running clothes after every run, they will soon wear out. When I just hang them up, they may be a bit stinky the next day, but hopefully they will last longer.
Then I wash my face and sometimes use a washcloth to wipe down portions of the rest of me and call it good. Most days I have a swim and/or a bike ride later in the day, so I figure why shower so much. And as the late
Dr. George Sheehan used to tell us – sweat doesn’t smell. Although I don’t think I completely buy that.
Anyway after my final workout later in the day, I do take a shower. However, in the name of water economy, and avoiding dry skin, one shower a day does it.
Does that make me unsavory and smelly? Possibly, but that is just how I roll.
I hope you don’t love me any less.
Thank you for reading.
