Serious problems once again plague Tempe Town Lake...home to IM Arizona

Last year Ironman Arizona almost went high and dry because the dam holding back the water of Tempe Town Lake burst months before the race.
In battle against time, officials raced to repair and replace the damaged dam before the fall Ironman.
Today we get word from a tip that Tempe Town Lake may be shut down this summer to swimming because of poor water quality.
According to the Associated Press:
"State experts say stagnant water near the lake's eastern dam from various sources including freeway runoff, a Mesa water-treatment plant and other upstream sources is contributing to unhealthy water readings.
The state wants Tempe to use bypass pumps and move the bad water away from town lake.
Tempe officials tell The Arizona Republic the water is needed to cover the east-end rubber dam and protect it from baking and deterioratinging the sun, similar to what happened to the lake's other dam."
Ironman Arizona is scheduled for November 11 of 2011.
Let's hope they sort out the poor water quality issues in the next few months.
