This is story is currently filed under Ironman, but if we had a category called "unsubstantiated rumors" it would also be filed under it as well.
Earlier this year we reported on the sale of the World Triathlon Corporation to Providence Equity Partners.
Xtri.com is reporting today that Providence Equity Partners, which acquired the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC)
earlier this year for an estimated $50 to $80 million dollars has now set it's eyes on purchasing North American Sports (NAS).
The WTC owns the rights to the Ironman brand, and owns the Ford Ironman
World Championship in Kona, along with Ironman Louisville.
NAS is headquartered in Boulder, Colorado and manages the other North American Ironman races including Ironman:
Canada, Arizona, Wisconsin, Lake Placid, Coeur d' Arlene Florida
"If you own the World Triathlon Corp. but don't have control over NA Sports, that isn't a ideal situation. So for Providence Equity Partners to also get their hands on NA Sports makes a lot of sense. What impact will it have for the average North American Ironman starter? Most likely none."
We'll keep you posted on any hard facts as we get them.
