Rich Roll goes from miserable man to Ultraman to fittest man to CNN feature man

Posted Jul 21 2009 10:01pm 2 Comments

Rich2 Our longtime friend Rich Roll was just featured on CNN.com. Congrats Rich! You deserve it!

Rich has had an interesting year...to say the least (you can read all about it below and you can listen to Roman Mica' s podcast conversation with him recorded a few months ago after he completed the Ultraman HERE.)

He' s a family man.

He' s an Ironman.

He' s an Ultraman.

He' s a vegan.

He' s an attorney and a movie producer.

He' s a model and now he' s one of Men' s Fitness Magazines fittest guys in the world for 2009.

His name is Rich Roll and you can listen to a fun podcast with him recorded just after he completed the Hawaiian Ultraman World Championships HERE.

BTW: The Ultraman would be the equivalent of doing three Ironman in a row over three days.

We recently got this email from Rich:

"Hey Roman -- Lovin the podcast, the site and the tweets:)

Wanted to thank you. When I saw your posting several months ago concerning Men’s Fitness Magazine’s search for the fittest “Average Guy”, I submitted on a lark.

Well turns out they ended up selecting me —check out the “MF 25” -- 25 Fittest Guys in the World — as the fittest “Real Guy”. Sort of embarrassing, but pretty cool too.

Magazine should hit newsstands next week.

Thanks again & keep up the great work...:)

Cheers, Rich "

So we' d like to congratulate Rich for a life well lived.

Men' s magazine writes about Rich:

Richroll " RICHARD ROLL
Age: 42
Country: U.S.A.
Career: Entertainment Lawyer/Producer

Some guys buy a sports car when they hit 40. Roll was 30 pounds overweight at the time, so he decided to invest in his body, instead. Two years later the Calabasas, Calif., lawyer earned the honor of being the second "Regular Joe" on the MF25. "When I turned 40, I found myself the most out of shape I' d ever been," says Roll, a former elite swimmer at Stanford. "I didn' t want to live that way." He adopted a plant-based diet and used multisport training to achieve a base level of fitness. But "base" wasn' t enough, so he set his sights on the 2008 Ultraman, a three-day, double Ironman distance triathlon in Hawaii. Roll began 15 to 20 hours of training per week, eliminating "anything extraneous" beyond family (he' s married and has four kids) and work. He finished 11th overall in the Ultraman but first among non-pros. "Working out makes me adhere to a tight schedule," Roll says. "I' m much more productive."

So now Rich finds himself in some pretty interesting company as one of the fittest guys in the world including:

SIR RICHARD BRANSON

HUGH JACKMAN

USAIN BOLT

CLIVE OWEN and

LEWIS HAMILTON

That' s some pretty impressive company in our book, but than again Rich Roll is a pretty impressive guy.
