Race Across the Window: Eight riders start 3000 mile ride in store window on computrainer for charity

Posted Jun 03 2010 2:36pm

Raw Riding a bike across the United states can be a challenge, but how about riding 3000 miles in a shop window on a computrainer?

That's exactly what a small group of eight amatuer athletes are doing today as they'll spend the next week riding in a store window in New York to raise money for charity.

You can check out a live streaming view of the ride below.

Here are the details from the ride's  web site :

"At noon on Thursday, June 3, our team of eight riders will begin a simulated 3,000 miles ride on Computrainers in the store window of JackRabbit Sports' Union Square location. We'll ride 24/7 for a week or so, until we complete the task.

This year there are a few changes. First and foremost, the event will benefit the Challenged Athletes Foundation. CAF does great work to help people with physical disabilities pursue an active lifestyle through physical fitness and competitive athletics.

Please donate if you can. The process is simple and secure.

Don't forget to follow our progress on Facebook and Twitter . We'll post updates on the ride as well as raffles, discounts for donors at JackRabbit, and other incentives.

When my mother passed away in 2007, I decided to hold a charitable event in her memory every year. In 2008 we did an event to support Locks of Love, and last year it was the Young Survival Coalition. This year, we're reviving last year's format and doing the 2nd edition of the Race Across the Window. As was the case last year, our team of eight riders will ride a simulated 3,000 miles on Computrainers in the store window of JackRabbit Sports' Union Square location. We'll ride 24/7 for a week or so, until we complete the task.

Plus, this year will be bigger and better. We'll have a second Computrainer set up this time around to accommodate guest riders, celebrities, and CAF athletes."
