Life Time Triathlon Corporate Charity Winners: Gear West Bike

I believe that apart from the Nautica Series of Triathlon’s ( benefiting St. Judes), no other triathlon in the country gives away more money directly to charity thanthe Life Time Fitness Corporate Charity Challenge.Introduced in 2007, the Charity Challenge gives the entire $3,000 team registration to charity. But there is a catch! If your team beats Bahram Akradi’s team (he founded Life Time and is quite the triathlon cheerleader, video interview coming soon), they throw in an additional $50,000 to a charity decided on by the fastest relay team. Last year the winner wasGear West Bike- and this year they repeated again with Curt, TK, and Kevin posting a 2:01.Gear West is again giving the donationto the American Partnership for Eosinophilic Disorders atwww.apfed.org.
You don’t think this makes a difference? By now APFED has received $106,000 from the 2007 and 2008 Life Time Charity Challenge as they continue “to increase awareness, educate patients and physicians, increase funding for research and provide support for the eosinophilic community.”
Life Time Corporate Challenge Results -full results here. 1. Gear West Bike 2:01 2. Life Time Fitness 2:12 3. Octane Fitness 2:13 4. Team Accenture 2:20 5. Faegre & Benson 2:21
I counted 24 teams for 2008, but there is space for 50. So next year, if you don’t want to tackle the whole race yourself, or if you have a charity cause that your are passionate about, get the goggles, tune up the bike, and starting running 10ks because the rumors are that the Challenge might double next year!
