A loocal Las Vegas man and Russian women won the Las Vegas Marathon today.
Abebe Yimer of Las Vegas this morning won the Las Vegas Marathon at 2 hours, 27 minutes and 27 seconds as the first Clark County resident to ever win the city's annual marathon.
The 28 year old is originally from Ethopia and moved to Las Vegas in 2001.
The overall female winner was Nadezhda Tuptova, a 33-year-old Russian who lives in Gainesville, Fla. Nuptova's time was 2 hours, 56 minutes and 33 seconds.
According to the Las Vegas Sun:
"In the half marathon, Rob Smith, 33, England, finished first with a time of 1 hour, four minutes, nine seconds. Cheryl Murphy, 39, Victoria, Canada, won the half marathon female division in 1 hour, 18 minutes, 51 seconds.
The event kicked off in front of Mandalay Bay at 6:07 a.m. after a seven-minute fireworks display with more than 15,000 runners."
