With his Tour de France all but over (at least from a podium point of view) Lance Armstrong is now eagerly turning his attention to triathlon.
In a recent interview the seven time Tour de France champion said that he plans on racing a half Ironman race before attempting the full Iron distance.
"The first thing I have to do is to compete in a half Ironman to test
myself," said Armstrong.
"Because of my age and I would rather not compete in Olympic distance.
triathletes who dispute this distance achieve speeds that I cannot get
to," he added.
Armstrong reason for going long is that he believes he stands a better chance at still being competitive.
"What is clear is that if I want to be competitive, I have to focus on
longer distances as they often have tougher cycling sections and that
benefit me," he said.
As for the Tour de France...
"This Tour will be my last race of three weeks," he said. "I would give
chance in a triathlon but do not know how fast I could go."
