Ironman Special Needs bags

Posted by Erin337

When preparing for my first Ironman at Ironman Canada 2009, it was difficult to find information on what people put in their special needs bags.  Typically, an Ironman race will have a special needs bag on the run and the bike.

I would be interested to see what other people put in their bags.

Here is what I put in mine:

Special Needs Bike bag (120kms in to the bike)

  • 3 PowerGels (3 different flavours)
  • 16oz of Blue Gatorade (stared off frozen)
  • 2 tubes
  • 2 CO2 cartridges
  • 1 bag of Lays Plain potato chips
  • sample size of Body Glide

Run Special Needs (22kms into the run)

  • 3 Power Gels
  • Socks
  • Bandaids
  • Sample size of Body Glide
  • 16oz of Blue Gatorade (also started the day frozen)
  • 1 bag of Lays Plain potato chips
  • 2 extra strength Tylenol

Biggest thing for me in my run bag was clean dry socks. I still got blisters, but they would have been twice as bad if never changed socks.
