It started out as a way to poke fun at the Europeans strolling around Kona in the Speedos almost 12-years-ago now.
But today the 12th annual "Underpants Fun-Run" has grown into an annual charity event with over 400 underwear clad Ironman athletes running one mile in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.
Some see the annual event as a way to let of of steam while others like six time Ironman Champion Dave Scott believe that it is inappropriate and takes away from the Kona Ironman World Championship race.
"This is just a fun way to release some of the pre-race
tension," said Paul Huddle a retired triathlete and Underpants Run organizer.
The event raised more than $5,000 for local charities, including West Hawaii Special Olympics.
