Ironman 70.3 Pocono Mountains will be produced by Philadelphia Triathlon, LLC, owner and operator of the Philadelphia Insurance Triathlon, a top-ranked international distance triathlon in the United States.
“As the leading multisport producer in the Mid-Atlantic, we were looking for a new opportunity to bring another great triathlon to the region,” said Richard Adler, CEO of Philadelphia Triathlon, LLC. “We couldn’t think of a more exciting opportunity than bringing Ironman, the most prestigious brand in endurance sports, to the Pocono Mountains. The Pocono Mountains will provide the perfect backdrop for an Ironman 70.3 event. Ironman 70.3 Pocono Mountains will be the closest Ironman 70.3 to both New York City and Philadelphia so we expect the interest in this race to be significant. We look forward to working closely with the Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau (PMVB) and the municipalities in the region to launch a successful Ironman 70.3 Pocono Mountains.”
Located within driving distance of most major East Coast cities, the Pocono Mountains region is home to rolling mountain terrain, breathtakingly beautiful waterfalls, thriving woodlands, 170 miles of winding rivers and 261 miles of hiking and biking trails.
“We are delighted that the Pocono Mountains has been selected to host the first Ironman-licensed race in Pennsylvania,” said Carl Wilgus, president and CEO of the PMVB. “The region is an ideal fit for this prestigious competition as our landscape and community offer the adventurous traveler unparalleled activities and services. Hosting this event provides a tremendous opportunity to showcase our scenic beauty and myriad of extraordinary outdoor recreation to potential visitors from around the country.”
