"I hear Ironman legend Dave Scott had a nasty crash yesterday. Wishing him well. He was one of my idols growing up."
Scott was struck by a car in the Wonderland Hill area of Boulder, Colorado and had surgery yesterday on his shoulder blade at the Steadman Hawkins Clinics in Vail.
Ironically it was just last week that Colorado enacted a new bike safety law mandating that drivers have to give cyclist at least three feet of room when passing or face a possible $110 ticket.
The legislation was signed into law by Colorado Governor Bill Ritter
who said in a written statement, "One of the great things about
Colorado is that so many people love to
bike," But it also means that
cyclists and motorists alike must take extra precautions so that we can
share the road safely. This new law will enhance safety for everyone."
Witness at the scene said that it
looked like a late model BMW SUV was making a u-turn on Linden Ave when
the car hit Scott.
"The car had a pretty big dent," Jimmy Archer who arrived after the accident said.
