I LOVE TRIATHLON

Posted Aug 28 2009 8:19pm
Sunday I was riding the MTB again. This time it had 29" wheels. They do roll pretty good. After my ride at Muleshoe...I rode from there to Pace Bend where the Pure Austin rode race was 'ON.' The race was 'ON' and the crashes were 'ON'! Get well DW from SE who was taken out by some wooly mammoth on Sunday in the finishing sprint. Maybe it was 'just racing', but it sure looked that way from the pictures.

Anyway, I realized that I freakin' love Triathlon. I loved it before JA's put 'We Love Triathlon' on the back of their shirts. Heck I loved it before a lot of people knew what a triathlon was. But, it got me thinking back to what I call the good ole' days of triathlon...back in the early 90s. But, it got me asking the question why do people do triathlons? Is it really because they love it?

I think that may be the case for a lot of the community, but for others I wonder. Is it just to check a box? Is it because it's 'healthy'? Is it so that they can beat other people? Is it because it is the 'in' thing to do? The challenge? Why do YOU do triathlon?

I've raced from 1988 until now. Last year was a pretty good year. 2006 was a pretty good year...I traveled to 5 continents and spent a lot of $$ on triathlon. 2008 will be a great year regardless of the results. Why? Because I love triathlon, and I'm already having more fun in 2008 that I did in 2007.

Speaking of fun...after Lajitas I was beat. I don't think I pee'd for 3 days I was so dehydrated.

Sunday - Easy ride
Monday - Easy SBR
Tuesday - The travel, the race, all caught up with me. Zero, Zilch, Nada
Wednesday - 5k swim, 90' SST bike, 60' run, core
Thursday - Tired again 3k swim
Friday - Fast Friday, bunch of 100s in 59-60", Tempo run, drove some more and went to Houston to talk with John Cobb about our windtunnel testing
Saturday - Solid swim, Bike 3.5 hour ride
Sunday - Long run, Long 3+ hour MTB ride on a bike with BIG wheels

18 hours even with just about 2 complete days off. Oh yeah, 29" MTB wheels are nice. Maybe I'll do a review of the bike that I'm riding. We're waiting on our Zoot stuff and our Scott bikes. It's going to be a fun year this year!!!
