Get healthy and fit by swimming biking and running your age

This is the Who takes a vacation day to exercise? Me!
I heard about a fun, memorable way to celebrate a birthday -- a way
that weaves the triathlon disciplines into the mix -- and I was
It's called B-Fit B-Day birthday challenge, and basically the goal is to achieve a gold,
silver or bronze medal by swimming, biking and running a certain
distance based upon your age.
I went for the gold. Here's what I had to do:
Swim 1,000 yards for every decade (2,000)
Bike (in miles) your age (29)
Run (in miles) the second number of your age (9)
So, I decided to take a vacation day from work and have a triathlon of a birthday.
After sleeping in, I got up to bike first (since the pool opens at 10 a.m.)
For what its worth, 29 miles on a trainer is long and boring.
So by that time, the pool was open and I was ready to swim! I headed
over to IM West and took care of business. I wasn't really able to keep
track of my laps with the technology at-hand, but I did con another
swimmer (thanks, Beth!) to document the fact that I was at least there!
So I finished my 2,000 yards and drove back home for one more wardrobe
change. I got bundled up and hit the trails. Let me just mention how
hard it is running on an almost constant sheet of ice. My obliques are
sore a day later, and I think it is because of the balancing act I was
doing on the ice!
Anyway, the run was tough and I was dividing it up much more than
usual, which I took to mean I was ready to be done with my "bfit
birthday." I completed the 9 miles, nonetheless.
