Wow, does it feel great to have my energy back after having none of it all last week. My training this week has been unbelievably awesome so far and I still have half the week left to go.
Masters practice both Monday and today were great. I pushed myself and it hurt alot but after I was done I couldn't believe what my body had just done. On Monday the main set consisted of a pyramid; 4x100, 4x75, 4x50, 4x25 all free followed by 4x100, 4x75, 4x50, 4x25 all pull. I would have loved if Dave had been there knealing over my lane with his stopwatch timing me, but he had new swimmers come and had to work with them. So for once I pushed myself without Dave there to give me a little extra boost. The main set was quality so I did just that. My 100s splits were 1:24, 1:23, 1:23, and 1:25. My 75 splits were 1:05, 1:08, 1:07, and 1:04. I swam my 50s between :37 and :38 and the 25s were swam on nothing more than :18. The pulls didn't go to amazingly well, but I have figured I'm by no means a "puller", so its all good.
Today's main set consisted of 4x100 with a bouy on 2:00, rest 1 minute, 4x100 with paddles and pull bouy at 2:00, rest 1 minute, 4x100 kick 50 with the board and 50 without a board on a very slow interval, 1 minute rest, and then 4x100 on 1:45 "cranking it up" and "sucking it up". I was thinking OMG and Heck No when I saw the workout but I worked hard and pushed myself the whole way through hurting and did awesome! The 4x100 with a bouy weren't to great, doing them on 1:29 to 1:35. I thought I was toast on the next 4x100 pulls but sucked it up and swam them all under 1:26 (being the slowest 100) and then 1:23(being the fastest 100). The kicks were hard. From that first 25 until the last 25 of the set the lactic acid was burning up in my legs and I was thinking no way can I do these and have them be quality. I was in the lane with my buddy Orlynn who is a fast chica in the water, but managed hang with her on the kicks and did all them under 1:23. After this I thought I was toast come the last 4x100 but suprised myself again. The 100s were descending 1-4 and thats just what I did. The first 100 was relaxed, 1:24, you kidding me... that fast for relaxed... OMG. The middle two 100s were done on the 1:22... no way... are you serious... I'm really not that fast, but ok. The last 100 I felt pressured, this one being the fastest and the best one of them all and thats what happened. I don't know the how close I was to breaking 1:20 but I was a 1:20. Ok so seriously I haven't been that fast in practice since about 10 years ago when I was swimming club. At that point warm down sounded so relaxing and I totally took it in as my reward for the pain I suffered for almost 40 minutes this morning. As I got out of the pool Dave asked me "since when did you get so fast?" I looked at him, shruged my shoulders and told him I didn't know when, how and why, but it felt good and I felt like the champ I sometimes I'm known as.
Cycling training has gone amazingly well to this week. After being stuck on my stupid and lame trainer all last week, I finally got to go outside and enjoy the unseasonably warm weather in North Texas. I got out today and did my HILL REPEATS over on the big Windhaven hill. I haven't ridden there in so long I forgot how much I love and hate that hill. I hate it becuase its so steep but love it because going down is a rush and when you finally reach the top, wow, you really worked (or at least that is how I feel). The schedule called for 10 repeats but I was crazy and did 12. Zooming down the hill I topped 40mph while climbing it I never got below 8.5mph (which occured at the steepest part of the hill). Again I felt so accomplished and man was it awesome having that energy back.
Tomorrow is my off day, but I might have to sneak in a little run at some point of the day.
